7 Things Columbus Would Want You to Discover

7 Things Columbus Would Want You to Discover

"The real voyage of discovery does not consist in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."  Marcel Proust

In recent years there has been some controversy surrounding Columbus, his voyage, the "finding" of America, his treatment of Native Americans etc. Being that Monday was Columbus Day, it got me to thinking about the overall concept of discovery as a theme for myself for the rest of this year.

Here are 7 things to do if you're looking to discover more success in your own life.

1. If you need to understand what real motivation is, and what the future of management, leadership and the workplace might look like, try Drive by Daniel Pink.

2. If you want to do better and be a better partner in your personal relationships, read The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman.

3. If you hope to learn how to minimize extraneous activities and spend more time on your priorities, explore Essentialism by Gregory McKeown.

4. If you are at a point in your life where you are searching for a bit of metaphysical perspective, dive into The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

5. If you are eager to get a head start on your New Year's resolutions and get in better shape, pick up The 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferris.

6. If you desire to know more about instinct and the decision-making process, open Blink by Malcolm Gladwell.

7. If you are in pursuit of some serious inspiration, watch Dr. Rick Rigsby's speech, Lessons from a 3rd grade dropout. Quite possibly the most motivating speech that I have ever seen.

Bonus: #8. If you are looking to attract, acquire and retain more customers, check out - In Search Of…Customers!

{A little self-promotion doesn't hurt, right? :-P}

Enjoy the voyage!
